Scottie Wilbekin

Senior leadership and solid guard play are important in the NCAA tournament.  Scottie Wilbekin provided both of these key components for the Florida Gators(35-2) tonight.

Wilbekin was quiet in the first half of the Gators Sweet 16 match-up with the UCLA Bruins(28-9).  Mid-way through the second half he provided the spark that proved to be the difference in the ballgame.  UCLA stayed close to Florida until the 5:00 mark in the second half.  Wilbekin connected on a contested three to start his personal run.  UCLA  increased their on ball pressure down the stretch.  Wilbekin could not be shaken.  He scored two critical baskets in the lane to cap a personal 7-2 run.

Wilbekin has made some hurtful decisions during his career at Florida.  Billy Donovan stuck with Wilbekin through some troublesome times.  That decision has proved to be a good one for Wilbekin as well as the University of Florida.

Florida knocked off UCLA 79-68.  The Gators outscored UCLA from three-point range 24-9.  With the win Florida moves one step closer to their third NCAA Championship in the last nine years.

Scott Wilbekin tournament MVP?
